theverge wrote a new post, The Nintendo Switch kickstand is still bad, on the site GoGame.com 7 years ago
I bought a Nintendo Switch last week to play Super Mario Odyssey. But there’s one thing I can’t fully grasp with the device and how it made it through product testing: the kickstand. Nintendo always shows the Switch on a stable table, and I don’t think a laptop on my legs qualifies as such. Still, the Switch falls over every five minutes with the slightest bit of movement because of the kickstand; you can’t charge the device while it’s standing because of the kickstand; and it sits at a steep an

theverge wrote a new post, Nintendo’s old promotional Flash games are being brought back to life, on the site GoGame.com 7 years ago
A modder, programmer, and all-around Nintendo enthusiast who goes by the name Skelux has been working on restoring all of Nintendo’s old promotional Flash games, as spotted by Motherboard. Flash gave us some of the web’s finest moments, like Badger Badger Badger and Homestar Runner. Over time, Flash became less popular and dedicated Flash-based game websites were often deleted once they had aged past the release they were designed to promote. However, Skelux has made it a mission to restore and

After more than a decade away, Sony has decided to resurrect its iconic robot pet brand with a brand new model simply called “Aibo” (model number ERS-1000). There’s an app called My Aibo that is used to access settings, view photos taken from the dog’s camera, and download additional “tricks” from a store. Aibo also now requires a subscription, like SoftBank’s Pepper, running 2,980 yen a month (about $26) for a minimum of three years. Also for 2,980 yen, Sony is selling this bone accessory calle

theverge wrote a new post, RIP John Mollo, who created the iconic costumes of Star Wars, on the site GoGame.com 7 years ago
When Star Wars hit theaters in 1977, it was unlike any film that audiences had seen, presenting a worn, lived-in feel world for its story. When George Lucas began work on Star Wars in 1976, he approached Milena Canonero, who designed the costumes for Stanley Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange. “For Darth Vader, we put on a black motorcycle suit, a Nazi helmet, a gas mask, and a monk’s cloak we found in the Middle Ages department,” he recalled in The Making of Star Wars. Mollo had a budget of $90,000 f

Development on Rogue Trooper Redux is underway, and to keep people talking about the remaster of the 2006 shooter, developer, and game and comic publisher Rebellion dropped a trailer detailing exactly what the game is. Titled “who is Rogue Trooper,” Michael Molcher from Rebellion brought viewers up to speed about the upcoming game and the titular character. Believe it or not, but Rogue Trooper has been a staple in the world of comics for over 35 years in the 2000 AD series, standing with the lik

The new inductees for the World Video Game Hall of Fame have been announced, and the winners are Donkey Kong, Halo: Combat Evolved, Pokémon Red and Green, and Street Fighter II. It is the third time the museum has selected gaming’s icons for its World Video Game Hall of Fame, and I was privileged to be one of the voters. “But Donkey Kong is also about much more than one character. Anyone may nominate a game to the World Video Game Hall of Fame. I voted for Halo, Portal, Pokémon Red and Green, Wi

Gunfire Games has a unique name for Darksiders 3 internally – a phrase I heard multiple times during my visit to Austin: “Classy-Siders”. “ The whole game world almost acts as one giant dungeon. Dungeons are supposed to be much more inter-connected, too, with the whole game world almost acting as one giant dungeon. It’s also just pretty overall, though it still maintains that unique, classic Darksiders art style, and with an immediately noticeable increase in verticality versus previous games. D

The McLaren Formula One team is looking to hire a new dedicated simulator driver, and it’s turning to video games for help. McLaren and Logitech announced a contest today called “World’s Fastest Gamer,” the winner of which will be offered a one-year contract to work with the F1 team. “[GT Academy] was massively successful, and we proved the point that there’s a huge amount of talent in the virtual world, and that those skills can be transferred to the real world,” Cox tells The Verge.
